Our Dangerous Curves Chapter of Women in the Wind has members who come from as far away as Cocoa and Sarasota, but almost all of our rides meet for kickstands up in Land O'Lakes, Fl- which is also known as the "New Tampa" area of Pasco County.
We have different brands of bikes and come from different lifestyles and economic backgrounds. We range in age from the 20s to some Grandma's Gone Wild! But we all love riding our motorcycles on the open road and working together to make our community a better place.
The Dangerous Curves chapter had more than 70+ rides in this past year (2008- 2009) alone. (Check the ride calendar for details by month!) We average one charity or benefit ride per month, and usually have a ride or two each week- whether it is a day ride to lunch, a cross country road trip or just out to dinner with the girls. We are best friends in addition to fellow chapter members, so we chatter often for anyone who wishes to be active in the group.
Although we boast two International Officers among our membership rolls, we decided not to have local chapter officers. Our Founding members also voted against charging local chapter dues or having the standard monthly chapter meeting. We just wanted to focus on riding and figured we could take care of any "business" over lunch on the ride if needed.
Any female who rides her own motorcycle and has a valid motorcycle endorsed drivers license is welcome to check out our rie calendar and to show up to meet the girls and to go out riding with us to see if our style of chapter fits what you are looking for in a women's riding group. No pressure to join, just come see if it is a good fit for you! If yuo do decide to join our chapter, we pay National Dues of $15 every March to Women in The Wind to help cover the newsletter and other national expenses. All members are encouraged to lead rides or plan events they think would be fun for the group.
We are VERY active in the Tampa motorcycle community!
In May of 2008, The Dangerous Curves Chapter sponsored the "Love Shouldn't Hurt" Poker Run, raising $11,000 for Domestic Violence Shelter, The Spring of Tampa bay.
In January of 2009, our chapter hosted the International Meeting for all 70 chapters of Women in the Wind in Key West Florida!
We were those bikes you saw riding on field during the pre-game festivities at all of the Tampa Storm Football games in the 2008- 2009 Season- and many local and national magazines regularly feature our Dangerous Curves chapter or individual members of this chapter to recognize how involved we are in the women's motorcycle community.
We do not recruit members. But new friends who ride safely are always welcome. Just show up, ride safe and help us keep this chapter a
"No Drama Zone".
Just good friends enjoying the ride and our common interest in cruising the open road on two wheels!
